Travel Team Parent Survey
As EBSA continues to try to improve its Travel Team experience, your input is critical. To that end, your responses to the 2008 survey are very important. Please take a few minutes to fill out our survey.
Fall Ball '08
Registration for EBSA's Fall Ball program is now underway. The League is open
to all players entering grades 3-8 in the fall. Players should register for the
league they will play in during the 2009 spring season.
The cost for the season is $70.00. Players will not be placed on teams until
the registration form and payment have been received. Registration will close
on Friday, August 23. Because we play fall ball in leagues with other
communities, we do not have flexibility to add teams at the last minute. We
will accept players after the registration date only if there are openings on
existing teams. We do not want to turn players away. Please register now so
that we can plan the proper number of teams.
Scoreboards coming to James Park this Fall!
We are pleased to report the purchase of 4 electronic, remote controlled scoreboards for James Park! The scoreboards are to be installed this Fall behind the centerfield fences of each of the quad fields #1-4. We appreciate the support of our EBSA families and our sponsors for helping to make our goal a reality.
We are also proud to announce that EBSA is donating the scoreboards to the City of Evanston in appreciation for the City's tremendous support of our Association. Our sincere thanks to all those at the City for their continual support and for providing the opportunity to play baseball and softball at James Park, one of the premier youth sports facilities in the area.
Sixth-Seeded Evanston Snares 9B North Shore Tourney Title
(Evanston Review 7/31/08)
Tournament time is indeed a new season. It was never more evident in the 9B division of the North Shore Baseball League when the top four seeds failed to advance to Sunday's finals in Lincolnshire's North Park.
When all was said and done, the sixth-seeded Evanston 9B squad not only was the lone Evanston team to advance to the championship game of the 12 divisions, but it was also the lone Evanston team to bring home a championship, defeating Glencoe 13-1. Evanston had posted a 9-5 record during the regular season.
"We benefited from timely hitting in the first inning and were able to put some distance between us and a very talented and well-coached Glencoe team," said coach Kent Geibel. "Our pitching had been stellar all tournament, and during the championship game the efforts from Justin Romic, Josh Klier and Brett Wicklund kept their hitters off balance all game. The defense did a great job of making the plays in front of them -- with a leaping grab web gem from Joey Chafetz too!
"Throughout the season, we instilled in the team the concept of "3 and 18" -- if we give our opponent only three outs an inning and 18 in a game then we will put ourselves in a great position to win. This became a core part of both our pregame and pre-inning routine with the players."
Evanston's pitching staff only allowed 11 runs in the 24 innings during the four tournament games. Also pitching for the winners were Josh Schoenberg, Matthew Reynolds and Maxwell Pierce. Evanston defeated second-seed Deerfield 5-3 in the semis.
Rounding out the Evanston team were Ty Robak, Brian Giella, Connor Watrous, Sam Bluestein, Matthew Anderson and Jared Larson. Adam Geibel served as the bat boy. Joining Geibel on the coaching staff was Chris Reynolds.
